Sumptuous chocolate treats ranging from truffles, tiramisu, tuxedo strawberries, and chocolate-dipped madelines to mocha java brownies, caramella chocolate crunch ice cream, chocolate batard bread, chocolate malts and more -- enough choices to make chocoholics dizzy. The array of chocolate creations are from Ghirardelli Squares restaurants as well as prominent restaurants, bakeries, pastry chefs and chocolatiers from around the Bay Area.
Students from the California Culinary Academy compete in the festivals first chocolate cooking competition. Pre-festival judging will select the three finalists, who will put the finishing touches on their desserts at the festival in a kitchen provided by Viking HomeChef.
Also: Demonstrations by chocolatiers and pastry chefs as well as lessons in history and chocolate-making from Ghirardelli Chocolates experts.
Plenty of fun for the family: Festival goers will have gallons of fun watching the "Earthquake" ice cream sundae-eating contest where the winner will receive his or her weight in Ghirardelli chocolate. Children can try their hand at decorating shortbread cookies while face painters and balloon artists work their magic.
