Staglin Family Vineyards: Over 300 guests met at the Staglin Family Vineyard this past fall to raise their wine glasses to the incredible success of fundraisers Shari and Garen Staglin. Over $1,400,000 was raised to benefit the research of brain disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar, and depression. It was a haute cuisine presentation of hors d'oeuvres by Whole Foods Executive, Chef John Mitchell, followed by a five star, five course meal by Executive Chef Cliff Pleau, of the California Grill in Orlando, Florida. The event had an extra sparkle to it as guestssat enraptured by the wit and charm of talented conductor John Giordano of the Fort Worth Symphony.
On hand to update our knowledge of mental health research and "tell us where the money goes", were Drs. John Rubenstein, UCSF and member of the NARSAD Scientific Council, LuAnn Brizendine, UCSF, Sam Barondes, Director of UCSF's Institute on Biological Psychiatry, John Kane, Albert Einstein Medical Center, N.Y. The three hour symposium on the morning of the 17th was educational as well as inspirational. This event is a must next year for anyone who is interested in the research being done in this field, and who enjoys the gratification of knowing where your contributions are going.
